Trump-endorsed Miller beats Davis in GOP primary featuring 2 Illinois incumbents: ucdailyreport

Miller

Trump-endorsed Rep. Mary Miller defeated fellow incumbent Rep. Rodney Davis in the GOP primary for a strongly Republican district. Davis withdrew from the contest on Tuesday night.

By portraying Davis as a moderate and pointing to both the former president Donald Trump's backing of her and her vote against certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election, Miller was able to inspire conservative voters.

After redistricting, which Illinois Democrats used to gerrymander the congressional map and control, Miller and Davis found themselves competing for the same seat. The newly created district has a strong Republican lean.

The victory comes a week after a startling incident when Miller called the Roe v. Wade decision a "great victory for white life" while standing with Trump at a rally. Later, a spokeswoman clarified that she meant "right to life."
